Birch Customs founder, Chris Batten, was raised by a talented do-it-yourself father, from whom he learned the value and joy of working with your hands.
Throughout his life, Chris was always making something. Past interests include woodworking, sculpture, and painting. Chris has a passion for transforming ideas into the tangible.
For Chris, creating custom knives is an intimate process. He believes when you hold something handmade, it has a different weight to it - that there is something else in your hand, something other than raw materials. That invisible weight is the artist's inspiration and passion for their craft showing through.
Birch Customs strives to deliver creative and functional knives.
Chris's first knife was made in 2013, prior to the birth of Birch Customs. The blade was made from a recycled machete that his uncle had given him. The handles were made from laminated layers of his favorite pair of jeans. After that, he was completely hooked.
Birch Customs was created in 2014. It is entirely operated by Chris and his wife.
